Clashes have broken out at an anti-austerity protest outside parliament in Athens, as MPs debate whether to approve an Eurozone bailout deal that would prevent the collapse of the country’s economy.

Riot police used pepper spray and tear gas to fight back protesters in the crowd who were hurling Molotov cocktails and rocks at police.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras faces a revolt in his party as he battles to win a parliamentary vote tonight on the bailout deal.

Some ministers within Tsipras’ Syriza party have said they will not vote in favour of the measures, while one rival MP from the right-wing Golden Dawn party ripped up a copy of the deal in the chamber before throwing it in the air.
