“… Islamist extremism is not limited to nations that have invaded Middle Eastern countries.

According to recent reports, the Islamic State has a cell operating in peaceful Switzerland.

Swiss journalist and Syria expert Kurt Pelda points to Winterthur’s an’Nur mosque, which is located about 20 miles from Zürich. “A man from Winterthur became radicalized in the last few months and recently traveled to Syria,” he said.

In 2015, four individuals from Winterthur traveled to Syria to join ISIS.

Saïda Keller-Messahli, President of Forum for a Progressive Islam, says the an’Nur mosque is just “the tip of the iceberg.”

“Radical imams always preached in the an’Nur mosque…Those responsible are fanatics. It is no coincidence that so many young people from Winterthur wanted to do jihad.”

Swiss authorities are currently looking into nearly 500 suspected jihadists living in the country.

According to Keller-Messahli, “huge sums of money” flow into Switzerland from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and Turkey. But the Swiss government says it doesn’t know who funds the 250 mosques that operate within its own borders.

Keller-Messahli says the an’Nur mosque is just one example of a “whole network of radically-oriented mosques in Switzerland.”

Mosque officials predictably argue that they do not promote violence or radicalization. “If we discover radical tendencies in one number, then the appropriate person will be immediately excluded. We sent them away, no matter who it is,” says Atef Sahoun, President of the Islamic Cultural Association An’Nur.

On top of that, Switzerland seems to be giving special treatment to Qatar – a nation associated with Wahhabi Salafism (a movement within Sunni Islam).

Qatar has invested billions of Swiss francs in Switzerland, and the small Middle Eastern nation seems particularly interested in the hotel industry. As reported by Die Welt, Qatar appears to be “building its own village” in Switzerland.

In December, Swiss authorities allowed members of Qatar’s ruling family to land in Zürich during a flight ban.

Judith Bergman of the Gatestone Institute argues that this unprecedented action “really sums up perfectly the ongoing Islamization of Switzerland.”

Author’s Note: Despite its isolationist attitude and strict migration rules, Switzerland is not immune to the many problems (including sexual violence and radicalization) now faced by the nations that have opened their doors to Muslim refugees.

As we’ve seen time and time again, these migrants will take advantage of local governments’ hospitality as they refuse to integrate and seek to create a parallel society that does not mesh with Western law or culture.
